Responsible AI & Privacy Statement

Artificial intelligence (AI) plays an increasingly important role in enabling innovation across ams OSRAM’s products, solutions, and internal operations. AI is primarily used as an enabling technology to support efficiency, quality, and innovation across administrative functions, R&D, and manufacturing operations. The company focuses on integrating fit-for-purpose AI solutions, including internally developed models and solutions provided by trusted technology partners.

At ams OSRAM, we are committed to the responsible, ethical, and trustworthy use and integration of AI technologies. We believe that technology must serve people, society, and the environment, and must be deployed in ways that respect fundamental rights, human dignity, privacy, and safety.

Our Principles for Responsible AI

Human-Centered Design
AI should support human decision-making, not replace human responsibility. We prioritize human oversight, accountability, and meaningful human control, especially in sensitive or high-impact contexts.

Trust, Safety and Reliability
We design and use AI systems that are safe, secure, reliable, and robust, minimizing risks and preventing misuse.

Fairness and Non-Discrimination
We aim to avoid unfair bias and discriminatory outcomes. As we primarily use third-party AI solutions, we rely on vendor safeguards and complement them with internal governance controls and user training on bias awareness.

Transparency and Responsibility
We ensure transparency about AI use where appropriate. Users are informed when interacting with AI where required. Employees are trained on responsible AI use, including bias awareness, hallucination risks, data protection, and security aspects. AI outputs must be critically assessed before being used in decision-making.

Privacy and Data Protection
We respect privacy as a fundamental right. Personal data is handled in accordance with applicable data protection laws and our Privacy Policy, and privacy-by-design principles guide our digital and AI initiatives.

Security and Resilience
We protect systems, data, and users from threats and misuse, including AI-specific risks such as unauthorized access, data leakage, or misuse of outputs.

Sustainability
We leverage cloud-based AI infrastructure provided by technology partners and consider sustainability within our broader IT and cloud strategy.

Our Commitment
ams OSRAM continuously evolves its AI governance in line with technological and regulatory developments. AI governance is defined centrally and applies globally across all regions and business units. The use and procurement of AI systems is subject to internal review by Data Privacy, IT Security, and AI Governance functions.
Our goal is to ensure AI innovation at ams OSRAM is ethical, lawful, human-centric, trustworthy, socially responsible, and aligned with our corporate values.

AI System Disclaimer
ams OSRAM will not design, procure, or deploy AI systems that manipulate users, exploit vulnerabilities, conduct social scoring, perform untargeted biometric data scraping, or use prohibited biometric or emotion recognition technologies. AI systems are used to support human decision-making and are not deployed for fully automated decision-making with significant legal or personal effects.
