ams OSRAM expands IP enforcement actions to protect automotive LED innovations from unauthorized use

Premstätten, Austria and Munich, Germany (August 13, 2026) -- ams OSRAM (SIX: AMS), technology leader in digital photonics, has filed two patent infringement lawsuits in Germany against an electronic components distributor for selling automotive LED products manufactured by Refond Optoelectronics Co., Ltd.

In these lawsuits, ams OSRAM seeks permanent injunction, damages, recall and destruction, alleging that certain automotive LED products from Refond’s Ceramic and EMC series infringe several ams OSRAM patents protecting proprietary technologies. The six asserted patents cover key innovations enabling highly efficient, robust and compact light sources delivering high luminance light of superior quality as required in automobiles.

These legal actions are based on ams OSRAM’s on-going vigilant market monitoring and expand the company’s recent patent enforcement actions from those launched in 2025 in the field of horticulture LEDs to automotive applications. For decades, ams OSRAM has been investing heavily in the research and development of LEDs for the automotive sector.
