Osram is underlining its leading position in automotive lighting

The lighting manufacturer is showcasing new products in all technologies at Automechanika -
Osram offers a full headlight with a combination of xenon and LED technologies

At this year's Automechanika will be presenting innovations in all lighting technologies. Highlights include the first xenon/LED headlight from Osram, LED DRL and fog lights and a laser module which will be fitted to the new BMW i8 and other selected vehicles. "With our new products we are providing an important boost to the automobile market. As the world market leader in automotive lighting we are once again strengthening our pioneering role in this sector", said Hans-Joachim Schwabe, CEO Specialty Lighting at Osram. Automechanika will take place from September 16 to 20 in Frankfurt. Osram can be found in Hall 3.0, Booth D15.

At Automechanika this year, Osram will be presenting a large number of innovations, underlining its position as the world leader in automotive lighting.

The first LED/xenon headlight from Osram

A particular highlight is the LEDriving Xenarc Headlight for the Audi A4, the first full headlight developed and produced by Osram with a combination of xenon and LED technologies. The company is therefore the only manufacturer so far to offer the option of a legal upgrade to xenon light without the need for major reconstruction of the front of the vehicle. The LEDriving Xenarc Headlight provides significantly more light than halogen headlights from renowned car manufacturers and also offers daytime running light functionality based on LEDs.

The world's first laser module for the automotive sector

Laser light for the BMW i8 is another milestone from Osram. The i8 is the first production car in the world with this new lighting technology. Development of this highly innovative light source is the result of successful cooperation involving Osram, its subsidiary Osram Opto Semiconductors, the BMW Group and headlight manufacturer ZKW. The benefits of laser light include its extremely long range and exceptionally high system efficiency. An adaptive control circuit based on the car's speed and a link to a digital camera-based high-beam assistant reliably ensure that there is no chance of oncoming drivers being dazzled. What's more, laser light modules are extremely compact, opening up a huge range of design options.

LEDriving range offers impressive functionality and design

The new LEDriving LG daytime running light also has an attractive design. It provides better visibility during the day for even greater road safety and, as an added bonus, makes the car look sporty and elegant. An intelligent control box ensures that the light is fully automatic. All the necessary certificates for use on European roads are also in place. LEDriving LG is compatible with hybrid cars and vehicles with stop/start systems.

The LEDriving range also includes a fog light (the F1 model) with a life of up to 5000 hours (99.99 € RRP) and a color temperature of 6000 K as a replacement for virtually all current fog lights.

Osram expands its product portfolio

In addition to expanding its offering of traditional light sources — such as a larger Cool Blue Intense portfolio and a new amber turn indicator light, the Diadem Deep Amber — Osram presented a new series of LEDsBIKE lamps for bicycles. The portfolio includes three front lights with different luminous intensities of 10 to 70 lux (costing between 29.90 € and 124.90 € RRP) and a tail light for 9.99 € RRP, for excellent visibility from great distances. The premium model (FX70) can be recharged via a USB interface and provides light in a 180 degree radius for up to seven hours. The bicycle lamps come with a two-year Osram guarantee and ensure that cyclists can see and be seen for ultimate safety.
