ams OSRAM to prove the power of its latest sensor and lighting solutions at SPIE Photonics West 2025
- ams OSRAM will show demonstrations of real-life solutions featuring its high-performance lasers, sensors and LEDs at the show in San Francisco, Calif., January 28 – 30.
- The Mira Image Sensor Family will take centerstage with its low-power consumption and high quantum efficiency, which is ideal for battery-driven applications such as AR/VR.
- Also on display, optical force sensing empowers smart surfaces by enabling seamless and sophisticated controls.
- Technology experts will share their knowledge during six conference presentations at Photonics West.
Premstaetten, Austria and Munich, Germany (27 January, 2025) -- ams OSRAM (SIX: AMS), a global leader in intelligent sensors and emitters, will demonstrate how its solutions are helping improve lives at SPIE Photonics West Exhibition, Hall F booth 5413, in San Francisco’s Moscone Center. The show, which takes place January 28 - 30, is one of the world’s largest photonics technology events and includes a conference with nearly 5,000 speakers and 60 technical courses. ams OSRAM technical experts will participate in six informative presentations covering topics ranging from eye displacement detection using self-mixing interferometry to strategies for improving light extraction in microLED arrays and cost and performance improvements in GaN based electro-optical devices.
ams OSRAM offers a wide variety of photonics products, including visible and infrared lasers, LEDs, image sensors and LED drivers. The company will showcase two of its latest innovations that are making an impact in the photonics industry. First, the new Mira016 CMOS image sensor packs a lot of punch in a very compact package. It has a small 2.79 µm pixel size with high sensitivity, made possible by state-of-the-art BSI technology. The 0.16MP Near-Infrared (NIR) image sensor offers power savings with high-quantum efficiency making it ideal for 2D and 3D consumer and industrial machine vision applications. At Photonics West, the company will showcase how Mira016 integrates into AR/VR technologies enabling camera-based eye and gesture tracking. Additionally, the versatile Mira016 sensor, with its resolution and compactness, is excellently suited for AI-driven applications. This makes it pivotal in robotics, drones, and various consumer, home, and building automation tasks.
Optical force sensing is transforming controls on electric devices to be more sensitive, multimodal, reliable, hygienic, elegant, and cost-effective. Buttons become invisible and can be seamlessly integrated into clean and sleek designs without any limitation on surface material choice. A new demonstrator from ams OSRAM based on optical force sensing detects the position of touch using a slider or the force of touch through up/down pushbuttons to control the dimming of spotlights. ams OSRAMs optical force sensing solution empowers a sophisticated control panel design that combine style, durability, and cost savings. Surface panels using optical force sensing interfaces are highly reliable due to functionality even in difficult situations including dirt, water and gloves. With its ultra compact design and precise sensing, it can be easily integrated into almost any surface without adding design complexity and space constraints.
“At Photonics West, we will demonstrate our unwavering commitment to collaborating with customers to create leading-edge solutions that are having a positive impact on our world,” said Conrad Rodriguez, Sr. Vice President of Sales, Americas Region. “Photonics West provides us with a perfect opportunity to showcase our cutting-edge sensing and lighting technologies in action.”
ams OSRAM’s team of experts will discuss the company’s latest breakthroughs and describe other product displays in Booth 5413, including:
- Barcode scanning application features a green laser diode with 20mW output power. The laser diode is an efficient and highly visible light source that enables scanning barcodes at long distances and in bright daylight. It is suitable for various industrial scanning applications.
- Material treatment product portfolio shows infrared laser bars, blue laser bars and chip on sub-mount for laser cutting, laser welding, 3D printing and other applications.
- Optical module illustrates Near-to-Eye projection in AR glasses and features OSRAM OSTAR™ projection LED. The high-power LED enables lightweight AR glasses. While our company also continues to refine its Vegalas™ laser emitter module, which reduces the size of the projection light engine by up to half.
- Eye-safe LED driver demo reveals the progress ams OSRAM has made developing dedicated drivers that prevent over radiation and keep devices eye safe.
