TzubaVision relies on Osram expertise for its largest international horticulture project
The reliable high-power Oslon SSL 80 LEDs from Osram Opto Semiconductors are being used in six greenhouses each with a floor area of around 4,000 square meters

For its latest horticulture project in China, TzubaVision is relying on the know-how of Osram Opto Semiconductors. Each BIOLED luminaire from the Israeli company is equipped with 43 Oslon SSL 80s. With the completion of the greenhouses in the Chinese province of Hebei, strawberries, tomatoes, peppers and various flowers such as orchids have been planted in a total area of 24,000 square meters.
Osram Opto Semiconductors accompanied the project from the very beginning and provided support in selecting the right LEDs. In this case, the main criteria were robustness and beam characteristics. To achieve ideal illumination for the various plants, TzubaVision calculated the number and precise distribution of the individual LED in the luminaire. With the aid of visual simulation in planning the individual greenhouses, the correct positions for the various luminaires were determined to ensure maximum homogeneity for the entire lighting solution.
TzubaVision opted for the powerful and reliable Oslon SSL because its compact footprint in combination with the narrow beam angle of 80° greatly simplified the design of the linear BIOLED luminaire. The efficient LED can withstand particularly high temperatures of up to 135°C thanks to its robust ceramic package. The Oslon SSL 80 is available in different wavelengths so it can be used with a high degree of flexibility. While the deep blue (450 nm) and hyper red (660 nm) versions produce the right light for photosynthesis, the far red (730 nm) version promotes germination, vegetative growth and flowering.
At around 3 µmol/J, BIOLED from TzubaVision is one of the most effective lighting solutions in the horticulture sector. The driver board uses durable and resistant ceramic
capacitors designed for up to 70,000 hours of operation. The luminaire heads themselves are certified to IP 67 and are made from high-quality anticorrosive polycarbonate so they weigh very little. The 50 W version, for example, tips the scales at only 300 grams, making it very easy to install.
“Its flexible design means that the BIOLED can be easily directed toward the various plants. The light spectrum is matched to each type of plant so the plant gets precisely what it needs”, said Eng. Uriel Vulej, TzubaVision’s founder. “The best modality for a plant was tested in various simulations as part of the project and defined based on scientific advice and expertise from Osram.”
